Tucked away in Tokyo’s Koto Ward, Sarue Onshi Park is more than just a green escape from the city—it’s a place where history, nature, and urban beauty quietly intertwine. Divided into northern and southern areas, this expansive park offers visitors a chance to slow down and enjoy scenes that feel like living paintings.
A Park with Deep Roots – From Timber Yard to Tranquil Oasis
Long before it became a public park, this land served as a timber storage site for the Edo Shogunate. Logs harvested from distant mountains were floated and stored in water reservoirs here. Today, that legacy lives on in a pond known as the “Mini Kigura”—a man-made water feature created to preserve the memory of the area’s timber heritage. Covering around 1,600 square meters, it reflects both history and the sky above.
Five Poplars and a Skytree – A Scene of Urban Harmony

At the Mini Kigura pond, five tall Italian poplar trees stand proudly along the water’s edge. On clear days, their reflections join a sixth figure—the Tokyo Skytree, which mirrors gracefully on the surface from afar. The result is a magical blend of nature and cityscape, dancing gently on the water like brushstrokes on a canvas.

Several ponds across the park reflect seasonal foliage, offering stunning views no matter the time of year.
A Gentle Stream and the Sounds of Nature

Adding to the park’s peaceful atmosphere is a 300-meter-long artificial stream, carefully designed with natural stone to evoke a wild, flowing river. The soft sound of running water and the shaded paths alongside offer a soothing break from city life—a perfect route for a refreshing walk.
