Welcome to the TOKYO FREE PARKS website. This time, we introduce HIGASHI SHINAGAWA PARK. It offers a combination of abundant playground equipments and a cycling space where children and adults can enjoy extended hours of play.

At the northern entrance, you’ll find a replica of the Shinagawa Lighthouse scaled at 5/6 of the original size. The Shinagawa Lighthouse is the oldest surviving Western-style lighthouse in Japan, with the authentic structure preserved and relocated to the Meiji Mura Museum in Aichi Prefecture.

Within the park, you’ll also encounter a genuine locomotive that holds historical significance, purchased by a Japanese railway company from Pittsburgh, USA, in 1897. Visitors can even enter inside the locomotive, experiencing a piece of history.

Furthermore, the park boasts a variety of playground equipment. Elementary school students in Shinagawa Ward collaborated to share their ideas when the park underwent renewal, including determining the placement and colors of the play equipments.
A particularly popular choice among children is the ship-shaped composite play structure. Additionally, the flooring around play equipments is made of elastic material, providing a comfortable playing surface for toddlers.

Not only for children but also for adults, there are numerous benches throughout the park, along with tables suitable for meals, creating a relaxing environment.

Venturing deeper into the park reveals a cycling course. Bicycles are available for free, and the flat terrain makes it an ideal location for children to practice cycling.
